Breastfeeding Time. Perfect for applying the Law Of Attraction!
Breastfeeding.
A wonderful time for mother and baby. Yet, it can also be a time when as a mother, we feel somewhat blue, lonely, and yes, even bored to tears. This is most likely to occur in the first few weeks and months of feeding your newborn. What does the law of attraction have to do with breastfeeding? You simply could not ask for a more perfect time to meditate, visualize, and apply the standard skills linked to the law of attraction. Why not take advantage of these frequent, ‘just long enough’ moments, to apply healthy thinking and contribute to creating the life you want for you and your baby? ... starting with your thought patterns...We've Come a Long Way, Baby! 30 years ago, when my friends and I were breastfeeding our babies, very little attention was paid to the state of mind of the nursing mother. (But they did make us drink beer with each feeding... seriously!) The last thing you would have heard from your well-intentioned health care providers, was that you could use this time to not only bond with your baby and provide her or him with the best start possible, but that you could learn and practice active positive thinking or law of attraction skills at the same time. You certainly would not have heard that learning to develop and maintain a good feeling state of mind would help you recuperate from childbirth, and achieve other goals that you naturally had as a new mother. Melissa This is a true story. Names and identifying data have been replaced. Melissa was a new mother, bound and determined to do everything right. She was a pro at breastfeeding, from the first colostrum feeding in the delivery room. She had suffered through a long and difficult labor and delivery after a complicated pregnancy. Anyone working in the field of obstetrics will tell you that those are two major red flags, or risk factors to postpartum depression. Justine, Melissa’s healthy newborn baby girl was a hungry little thing. As with all newborns, she needed to feed approximately every two hours. Sometimes she needed another feeding after just an hour and a half. Melissa was exhausted. She felt overwhelmed, and sometimes felt that she would never be herself, her old self... again. She felt trapped at home with a fussy baby. She loved little Justine, and loved holding her during the long periods of quality crying that went on for several months. Though her husband was a wonderful support, she began to feel isolated during breast feedings. She remembers bleak moments during nighttime or 3 a.m. feedings, when she felt she could no longer bear sitting there in the dark while little Justine contentedly nursed. She began to use healthy thinking strategies to turn her thoughts around from negative isolation to more positive, relaxed ideas. She began to turn on the television and watch comedies, reality shows and entertaining programs she had never watch before. She previously thought, perhaps not consciously, that to be a good mom, she had to be strictly paying every moment of attention to the baby during every second of breast-feeding. This is highly unrealistic, and unnecessary. Melissa also used a DVD created with positive imaging, beautiful visualization, with her own picture... her own smiling face, included in the slide movie presentation on DVD. A mind movie. Lively, positive dance music was the score accompanying this little movie, created just for her. All of these techniques helped Melissa to maintain a positive, healthy attitude, and replace negative dark thoughts, with uplifting more realistic positive imaging. Her overall mood improved significantly, and she continued to use these and other law of attraction strategies in day-to-day life. And they all lived happily ever after. Breast-feeding, Law of Attraction and Common SenseSo there you are, perhaps planning to breast-feed your baby, preparing the nursery and the many other duties you’re attending to. Have you spent any time thinking about how you will maintain a healthy mental attitude during the first few exhausting months? 1. Take the time now and start a collection of uplifting, lighthearted, inspiring, happy ending movies, and save them for that time. 2. Review the law of attraction basic 2-Step strategy: Decide, Energize and Know. 3. Create a list of the scenarios you do not want for your first few months, with the correlating list of the scenarios that you do want alongside it.* Focus on that list, that is, what you would like to experience during your breastfeeding months, and be specific about it. *If you're not too sure what is normal or what is a best case scenario for breast-feeding, talk to your nurse practitioner, physician or public health nurse, for up-to-date information on what to expect and what to aim for. Most communities have breast-feeding support groups or organizations you can also contact. Remember as you plan to breastfeed, that should your particular experience be less than perfect, or should you not be able to breast-feed at all, It Is Not Your Fault. If that turns out to be the case, and you are experiencing feelings of guilt, there are some effective mental or relaxation exercises you can do to let go of the feeling of guilt. Always remember, you are doing the best that you can, and you deserve for that to be acknowledged. If ever you are being counseled by someone who is making you feel bad or guilty if you cannot breastfeed, seek out a different health care provider immediately. Your primary health care provider is probably the best. 4. Create two or three dream boards, collages, or better yet, a couple of mind movies. Focus on scenarios and experiences that are on your “What I do want” list, and look for pictures from magazines that fit your breastfeeding law of attraction plan. You will then have several Energizing pre-planned supports to help you think beyond positive while you are actually breastfeeding... even at 3:00 AM. In this day and age, when moms are expected to be super moms, doing everything perfectly, getting into swimsuit shape as soon as possible, being a loving wife, preparing nutritional foods, doing everything in an environmentally friendly way, all while taking care of her newborn baby and getting ready to go back to the workforce… YIKES !!! It's a miracle more new mothers don't give up on breastfeeding altogether. The following are A Statements, or realistic affirmations that you can say to yourself, think about, and even meditate on during your relaxation times. These are created for you to use after the birth of your baby. Just follow the style of these statements, create your own, and you will be applying good law of attraction strategy or healthy thinking technique. • “I am appreciating every new day, as I regain my strength and experience the miracle of bonding with my new baby.” • “It's wonderful to think about the fact that as the months go by, my body regains its shape.” • “I am enjoying being able to breastfeed my sweet baby, and the benefits to my health that come with it.” • “I am living the miracle now, holding my new baby and feeding it from my breast. I am amazing.” • “I appreciate all the help I receive from (husband, family members, health care professionals, etc.) :) I have an abundance of help. I am confident and comfortable asking for more help when I need it.” Remember that while you are relaxing, and taking advantage of your breast-feeding time to close your eyes and visualize or meditate, to always seek images that trigger good feelings within you. When a negative thought, fear or memory enters your mind movie during breast-feeding, use the standard law of attraction strategy of 1. calmly accepting that feeling, and 2. letting it go, while you 3. replace the thought that triggered it with something that makes you feel good once again.
