I'm Facing Childbirth Soon.
Can Law of Attraction Skills Help?

You may or may not, in labor and childbirth,

positive-parenting-tips hear the term law of attraction. However, many of the concepts you or your birth coach use to help you during the labour and delivery are the same. I.e.: Deciding on the image you want - a normal healthy delivery and baby. Putting your Energy, Attention and Focus towards that goal. Accessing and maintaining the confidence, Knowing or faith that all will go well, that you will get through it.

What Works Prenatal and birth coaching includes learning positive relaxation methods or meditation. It involves healthy focused breathing... maintaining focus on a central image.... all the same positive psychology concepts as law of attraction. I know. I've been there. I have had 2 successful pregnancies, with my first one (we're talking late '70s) being birthed a la Leboyer, into the tub of water. I have also coached two daughters through a sometimes difficult and ultimately successful pregnancies, labour and deliveries using these concepts. We also used some great web sites for helping moms through difficult pregnancies using positive thinking strategies - same strategies also called law of attraction.

Audio One of the first audio tools I created in my professional life (long before The Secret came out) was a childbirth coaching tape recording for use in prenatal classes in our local public health organization. I was later told it was used by my successors and colleagues long after I moved on and up the career ladder. Looking back, it was basic breathing, positive relaxation, affirmations, focus on the positive, visualization. The same concepts now being called New Age for some reason.

Key Skills The main elements to master if you want to apply your healthy thinking law of attraction skills to childbirth, in my opinion, are breathing, visualization, A-Statements and affirmations. That basket of tools should serve you well. Discuss these ideas with your Nurse, Obstetrician, Midwife, Physician, or Nurse Practitioner, and move forward on their professional advice.

I trust myself, and my body to know how to birth this baby.

I will instinctively know what I need and what to ask for during labour.

I am a strong, intelligent, confident and capable woman.

Strong contractions are good, are temporary, and help my baby come into my loving world.

I have the gift and responsibility for delivering this baby, and I am gratefully meeting the challenge.

My body knows how to give birth to my baby.

I have a beautiful pregnant body.

I am in the process of taking good care of myself.

Others around me, near and those cheering for me from afar love me. I feel it.

I pay attention to my body's needs.

I deserve to have the most wonderful birth experience possible.I am a powerful, loving mother.

When the time comes, my pelvis opens as has that of billions of women before me. OR My pelvis opens now, as has that of billions of women before me.

I accept myself and all that I now experience, completely.

I feel inner peace and serenity. OR (in a difficult time) I am reclaiming inner peace and serenity.

I accept this labour as it is, and know it is right for me and my baby.

Birth is a normal, safe and beautiful experience.

Enjoy learning these affirmations. You may want to create a recording of yourself saying them, to have on your MP3 player or mini video recorder for now, during labour and childbirth. Practice the breathing rhythms that your health care practitioner has taught you, along with your affirmations. Practice visualizing each of the affirmations during a daily 10 minute meditation.
