Hot Flashes. Vaginal Dryness.

Are We Having Fun Yet?

The good news is, a century ago, the arrival of hot flashes and our menopause years meant we were preparing for our own funeral!

hot-flashes-law-of-attraction Thank the Goddess our life expectancy has skyrocketed since then, and continues to climb. Isn't it much better to have to concern ourselves with night sweats, vaginal atrophy, preventing coronary artery disease and other 'new' issues, than what our ancestors had to face? Thanks to ongoing research and women sharing 'what works for me', women are facing this normal change of life with success. You can too.

Have you tried any menopause - specific meditation or other law of attraction strategies for your symptoms? Many women are reporting success with these safe, 'feel good', zero cost 'remedies'. Talk to your nurse practitioner or doctor about this and other helpful aids to any symptoms you may be experiencing. Let's look at how you would apply law of attraction philosophy to menapause. Note: I purposefully spelled it wrong here: menapause is a common spelling mistake women make when looking into the change of life issues that concern them, and may lead you to unreliable sources. It should be Menopause.

What kind of goal or desire is helpful to keep in mind, in applying law of attraction to menopause symptoms?

First, know that if you have serious symptoms of any kind at this time, serious enough to negatively affect your day to day function, such as urinary leakage, see your primary health care provider. You may only need to learn Kegel exercises - or you may need more health attention. When was the last time you had a complete physical assessment?

Helpful desired outcomes to develop a visualization around, or create any other Energy System aids include:

- Seeing yourself smiling, laughing, being active and enjoying a particular activity.

- Picturing yourself comfortable in a variety of clothing, in a variety of settings, managing symptoms well.

- Crating mental images to 'pull up' which help you focus on cooling, such as water, swimming, cool pitchers of lemonade, snow, ice cubes, icicles, skating...

How can I further apply my energy, attention and focus to my problem of night sweats?

The answer may lie in research such as this one: Meditation may actually help cool the heat flashes caused by menopause.

A new study suggests that menopausal women participating in a stress reduction with meditation had relief from hot flashes. They also reported that their quality of life improved. At some point during menopause, most women will feel hot flashes and night sweats. Little more than a nuisance for most, 10 to 20 % reported significant disruption to their lives.

Until fairly recently, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was the standard prescribed course of treatment. So many studies suggested HRT can increase the risk of heart disease and breast cancer, we now see it rarely and only short-term. The result is that alternative therapies are becoming more popular.

In the study, (see Menopause: The Journal of the North American Menopause Society), the effects of a mindfulness based stress reduction program were explored. This was a small study focused on hot flash severity and quality of life for fifteen women with an average age of 53.6, all experiencing menopause and reporting an average of at least 7 moderate to severe episodes / day.

The women were trained in (A) Body Scan meditation: gradually moving one's attention from feet to head, bringing awareness of sensations. This is done while lying supine, or on the back. (B) Sitting meditation: focus on flow of breath, sensations in the body, thoughts and emotions. One sits upright. (C) Mindful Stretching: exercises which aim to increase awareness during movement. Guided meditation CDs were also used by the women.

Meditation, a standard law of attraction strategy reportedly eased Menopausal Symptoms for the women: frequency of hot flashes decreased by an average of 39%. Also, the severity decreased 40% (average) over 11 weeks. Exciting to note, is that a 28% improvement was seen in quality of life. Most women reported being better able to cope with hot flashes.

Further study is required to explore these findings. However, the evidence is growing that basic healthy thinking strategies are effective for hot flashes, for many women.
