The Power of The Mind. Miss this...

...and you miss the whole thing!

You have a problem and have decided to get serious about tapping into the power of the mind. You want to solve it, once and for all.

power-of-the-mind-lawofattraction Hear this: unless you grasp this key concept, you will continue to spin your wheels, starved for real problem solving ideas. I know… it happened to me, and it is happening to many intelligent, well-read women – professionals, work at home moms, entrepreneurs, and even some who did have it at one point. It is why some are discouraged after the initial excitement from an early success using the law of attraction. It is very, very easy to forget this element. It is:

Does It Feel Good?

Be it law of attraction tools, meditation, sedona, or any other, your chosen power of the mind strategy will be ineffective, if you feel hopeless, discouraged and negative on an ongoing basis.

The key, so easily forgotten, is that you must find ways to generate and maintain positive, pleasant, hopeful, good feelings while doing your mental work. I am calling it work here, not because your chosen strategy is particularly difficult, but because it needs to be applied in a regular effective manner, much like a work routine, or new career skill.

Let’s take a look at what current research is saying about thinking, about the power of the mind.

Can the power of the mind help women decrease depression?

Many studies are now supporting that it can. The U of Penn's landmark article in the American Psychological Association’s respected journal is a great example. A study was done having subjects do exercises involving focus on:

- building gratitude

- increasing awareness of the most positive aspects about oneself

- identifying character strengths

3 of the exercises, or interventions, created sustainably increased happiness. They also decreased symptoms of depression.

Think Like Einstein! The power of the mind is undeniable when we know how to tap into it. The field of psychology’s growing emphasis on the importance of simply feeling good is one of the megatrends in mental health today.

Let's take the obesity epidemic. Our media has succeeded in literally changing the way women think about our own bodies... what is normal, what is healthy, what youth and age look like, all with our unconscious agreement. How can we as individuals tap in to the power of the mind to access healthier, less obsessive body imaging, and also solve the issue of obesity? Isn't it necessary to obsess about our bodies in order to lose weight? It is not obsessing we should be doing, it is enlisting the strength within the mind itself.

Enlisting the power of the mind begins with deciding to dedicate some Think Time to your problem. This can be as little as 3 to 5 minutes per day.

First, be clear about exactly what problem you are trying to resolve. In law of attraction strategy, this is called Clarity.

For example, let’s continue with the weight loss theme. Instead of deciding, I want to lose weight and look good for summer, ask your nurse practitioner or doctor for a full health assessment and together, determine … A healthy body weight for me would be ?? I am now in the process of getting to ??? pounds, over the next ? months, years ? … and I am enjoying the process. These are A-Statements - realistic, helpful, and pre-cursors to affirmations.

Notice how you are not asking your mind to accept an unrealistic goal or affirmation, and instead, you are enlisting the power of your mind to work with you in a TLC, hopeful manner. One which feels good. Also note the positive vocabulary you are using. Forget lose weight. Your brain is hearing that as a negative message. Instead, use healthy weight, get healthier and similar terms.

Next, list 5 to 10 positive aspects about the area of the problem, good qualities you have that may help you solve it, such as creativity. Spend 3 to 5 or more minutes each day thinking clearly and hopefully about the possibility of a successful turn around and what that will feel like. Tap into the visual power of your mind and create one clear easy to bring back to mind image of you, happy and having solved the problem. Want to know more about this concept? Science is exploring it on a massive scale, and calling it brain plasticity.

Also. Create and use A-Statements, and eventually, standard affirmations about your problem. Remember: the power of the mind is fueled by your own good feelings. If and when you start to feel bad about your issue, stop and go within to access the healthy thinking tools you have.

Note: It is not possible, nor is it realistic or even necessary to feel good all the time. However, the brain is now being studied like never before, and great minds are revealing amazing discoveries. Clinical literature may not be using terms like law of attraction yet, but the subject matter is closely linked indeed. From brain plasticity, to modern positive psychology, women can greatly improve their lives by acquainting themselves with strategies based in the power of the mind.
