Timeline: The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

3000 BC -ish: an object called The Emerald Tablet, supposedly created circa 3000 BC, contains the text As above so below, as within, so without. The Secret Rhonda Byrne central premise is based on this quote, interpreted as We attract what we think about.

1951 Birth of Rhonda Byrne, Australia. She becomes a TV producer – a handy skill for her later work, The Secret DVD.

1910-1912: Wallace Wattles writes The Science of Getting rich. See Wallace Wattles + free PDF copy of the Science of Getting Rich . The follow up Wallace Wattles book, The Master Key System. 1912, becomes the inspiration for The Secret and Rhonda Byrne's work.

1937 Napoleon Hill publishes Think and Grow Rich, which becomes the best selling business book of all time.

1962 Catherine Ponder writes and releases The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity. Note: a wide variety of law of attraction books are available at our Law of Attraction Shoppe, lower right

Pre-2006 Following a period of personal defeat and turmoil, and sometime before 2006, Rhonda Byrne’s daughter gives her a copy of The Science of Getting Rich, Byrne has an Epiphany.

Nov 2006 The Secret DVD and book are published, bringing Law Of Attraction into contemporary limelight. Understood for millennia, law of attraction was never a secret, and in fact is at the nucleus of most spiritual, religious and positive psychology practice. Another example of LOA’s rise to contemporary use is seen in the controversial work of Abraham Hicks, or Esther and Jerry Hicks .

2007 Oprah Winfrey features The Secret on her show. The rest is history.

2007-present day: Backlash over The Secret Rhonda Byrne and law of attraction emerges, as naysayers profess it is all hogwash. The same backlash has always occurred throughout history, following any new promotion of positive thinking ideas widely done.

Where are They Now? August 2010 Rhonda Byrne releases The Power, her follow up book to The Secret. It is about The Power to have anything you want. I have yet to read it – can someone send in a review?
