The Vision Board for Real Women
Why bother with a vision board? Most women are visual thinkers, to a large extent... just not in exactly the same way as men are.
We think in pictures, yet we do not need or crave the visual stimulation men do in certain intimate settings. We enjoy observing, and appreciate the aesthetic qualities of things around us. However, the general style and colours we like best are different from men’s. People learn more easily when pictures are shown, or when we can see the end result. A popular law of attraction, healthy thinking strategy I teach is the vision board. However, there is one a major caveat. When your dream board is starting to bug you, bore you, or becomes part of the wall paper … it is no longer helpful. At that time, create a new one, move it, or try another visually energizing strategy. It has to make sense. ( A picture of you at 5 feet 8 inches, when you are a 5 foot 2 inch adult woman is of no use.) It has to feel real, and please your psyche. Posting pictures of the things you want, in and around you home and workplace is a great idea you have seen, I’m sure, if you have ever taken advertising in college, or read any law of attraction materials. Simply observing visual cues about what you want, will in fact, subconsciously register that thing in your mind. Contrary to what came across in some of The Secret DVD footage, this does not mean you will attract that thing exactly as you see it, though that does happen as well. Read on however, as this strategy does help women seeking positive change. We are very good at sticking to something effective, even if results mean taking action and having patience. Where? By placing a vision board where you see it frequently, you will naturally be prompted to think about your desire more often. Have you noticed the increasing use of the Double Commercial? As irritating as it is, there is a reason you are seeing Two in a Row ads. Looking at the same image over and over again does entice us to do something. Successful companies use visual cues in their offices and factories, effectively keeping everyone focused on the same goals. Professional athletes, astronauts and cancer patients are all taught to visualize the desired result, in order to maximize their chances of success. I have clients from all walks using vision boards. It is fun to create one, and anything that triggers good feelings about your goal is helpful. It is part of how we create positive change in our own lives. Note: From my health care background, and from family members with low vision and blindness, I know that even they visualize and see things in their minds, in their own way. Visual Energizer A vision board is just one way of strengthening your own unique Energy System, part of Step 2 of the super-simple LOA formula I teach. Obtain a piece of bristle board or cardboard in a colour you really like. Interesting studies now indicate colours women gravitate to. Start collecting photos, or magazine and catalogue pictures, of things, people and events you have Decided (Step 1 of my 2-Step formula) you want to attract. Stick them on. Make a collage. There is no need to be artistic here. Have some fun. Cast aside any awkwardness you may have about doing this. Relax about what your partner, family and friends may think. This is something you want to do to create positive change in your life. Make your poster or collage as creatively unique as you wish. Actually spending time making the poster is a perfect example of an Energizing activity. The whole time you are doing it, and adding to it day by day, you are giving your desire attention, energy and focus. Bonus: the act of creating the vision board, like any art or creative activity, has been shown in studies to decrease stress. Enjoy! Hint for Strategic Planners: Add some images to those dry, boring finalized Strategic Plans. Watch what happens. Send in pictures of your vision board!
